Hours and staffing: The Center is staffed by two full time and one part time employee. The Center is operational from 6 am to 8 pm Monday through Thursday, Friday till 7 pm . The Center is open Saturday from 9am to 1pm October thru May. History: The Center opened with the building in 1995. The Center currently services 420 members, 36% of the eligible workforce. Philosophy: Rockwell feels that happy and healthy employees are more productive and satisfied. The Center at 1 Allen Bradley Drive was chosen for the fitness center for a number of reasons. It is one of the largest facilities for the Rockwell company in northeast Ohio. It is also a fairly central location for other sites, and the building had yet to be constructed so the center was able to be built into the plan. Physical description: The Center has 6500 square feet of space divided into the main exercise floor, an aerobics room, locker rooms with showers and a resource library. (Click here to see photo gallery) the center also offers an outside walking/jogging track. Assessments and classes: Members are offered a Fitness Assessment to provide a baseline for future improvement, develop goals and provide an individual plan for improvement. A submaximal aerobic bike test is used to estimate physical condition and endurance. A sit and reach test is used to measure flexibility. In addition a paced abdominal crunch test, push ups and grip strength test are administered. Body fat composition is estimated using caliper and circumference measurements. The Center offers classes including: Spinning, STEP, Cardio Interval, Cardio Jump Rope, Kickboxing, Body Basics, Fab Abs, Pilates,Yoga Popular programs/services: The best promotions of the last year has been the Meltdown. Employees form teams of four to compete in a ten week competition. The meltdown is based on fat loss not weight loss. The most popular pieces of equipment are our treadmills followed by ellipticals. The center has treadmills (3 trotter, 3 Life Fitness, 1 Precor); Stair Steppers (4 Stairmaster Stair Climbers, 1 Stairmaster Step Mill); Stationary Cycles (2 Lifecycle - Uprights, 2 Lifecycle - Recumbent, 2 Reebok Cycle Plus); Rower (1 Concept II Rower); Elliptical (2 Precor Elliptical Cross Trainers); Spinning (16 Johnny G Spinners); Stength Equipment (Body Masters Selectorized Strength Machines, Stairmaster Gravitron, Ab Rollers); and Free Weights (Various Benches, Bars and Plates, Dumbbells 5-85 lbs., Hack Squat, Smith Rack) Management Expectations: Attendance and enrollment are reported to management. Future plans: The Center is exploring longer hours of operation and is always exploring new classes to offer and different class times. More programs to reach out to non members such as the recent successful Heart Bingo. Heart Bingo required contestants to find heart facts to win prizes. The contest allowed Center staff to reach out and touch future members with health information. |
